Rudi's Notes 07-01-16
1st of Seranith
Before the party sets off from the cursed glade, something had been gnawing at Rudi and needed to ask someone else’s opinion. Hydrastis had been pretty wounded, Cassius saw things too black and white, Ted left, and Faderean still seemed sour about the Thylacine so that left Sear.
Rudi pulled the curmudgeonly sorcerer aside to tell him he thinks Glod is trying to kill him, referring to the two most recent battles. First, with the frogs where the dwarf had asked if they could just leave Rudi suffocating. Second with the Tatzlwyrms, where his spell brought one back from death, giving it the chance to almost tear out the halfling’s throat while he tried to help Hydrastis who had almost been killed.
Sear tells him he thinks his right, and his advice is to kill him first.
The pair return to the group, and start to discuss their future in the Stolen Lands, and their potential role in the area given the state between the Riverlands and Brevoy. Being so close to completing their charters, this is the first time the party has actually acknowledged success and thought about life beyond. Cassius mentions his father and what he might ask of them, a man Sear seems to know, but it leaves the rest mostly in the dark. They decide they’re getting ahead of themselves. There’s one more obstacle standing in their way.
The Stag Lord.
As they travel to the Thorn and Shrike rivers, to follow them to Lake Tuskwater where Ted believed the Staglord was, they decide to stop at the Tatzlwyrm lair and look for any potential treasure on the way.
Hydrastis and Pirec hear something charging down the trail behind them. As it gets closer, Faderean hands the reins off to Rudi who was engrossed in reading the charter. With both him and Cassius left in the dark about the approaching danger.
The creature runs into view, gnashing slavering jaws, sharpened teeth jutting from it’s lengthened maw. It’s claws drag in the dirt behind it as it charges the back of the wagon.
The troll had finally found them.
Faderean and Hydrastis unload, arrows glancing off it’s thick, warty skin for the most part. As it advances, it reaches out with it’s long arm, and swipes at the feral hunter. She turns to mist, and the claw pulls away with mist.
“Use fire or acid!” Pirec advised, running up a hill to the side of the wagon, and pinning the trolls foot down with an arrow.
The wagon keeps moving forward, making it hard for Faderean to hit with his magic arrows, but *Glod*’s magic weapon, didn’t have the same problem. The troll just shrugged them off, however, and pulled it’s foot free while the wounds immediately started to mend.
Sear is able to cast a spell that stuns the creature, while Rudi hands off the reins, and charges to the back of the wagon. He digs his trident into the creature, but still the wounds continue to close. Cassius rides by at the same time, striking the beast with his lance before spinning back round on the horse.
The troll retaliates, swiping at Rudi with one hand, while grabbing Sear with the other, and tearing out a chunk of flesh from his shoulder and tossing him to the ground. The horses still pull the wagon forward, widening the gap.
“Run! Get them away!” Rudi shouts, the head of his trident igniting in flame, before he jams it up under the rib cage, and bracing it into the dirt.
The troll roars as the weapon digs in, with the spiritual hammer and nature’s guardian continue to harry as well. The troll turns and runs, chased by arrows. Cassius charges past once more, with Rudi grabbing Mandarb’s barding and jumping onto it’s back behind the cavalier. He spears it one last time, making it stumble, and fall. It starts to move again, and Rudi starts burning it with every fire and acid spell he had left, with Glod joining in, as the rest build a fire up around the body to burn whatever was left.
They get to the tatzlwyrm lair later that night and find:
-Scale mail (Unidentified : Magical)
-Tent (Unidentified : Magical)
-Longsword (Identified : Masterwork Cold Iron)
-Jade carving of a nude elf monk
-Pewter drinking stein
-38 Gold, 520 Silver
-Water tight scroll tube
That night, Faderean sets up the tent, and it seems bigger than it should logically be. Faderean gets his and Sear’s stuff, to find Glod moving in at the same time.
That night, Rudi shows Pirec the mouldy tome he found in the mites cavern. He’s unable read it, but is able to identify that it is about one subject, possibly a biography.

The next few days seems them travel from the forest into hills, leading the group to the east of the Shrike and Thorn rivers where they spot a fort on the hill, with towers and palisades jutting from the top of it. Next to the hill the river dumps into a lake, presumably the Tuskwater.
That night, in an attempt to gain intel on the camp, Faderean and Pirec attempt to sneak up the arid hills, ducking between boulders and scrub brush, until Faderean is attacked by grasping hands clawing at him from the earth. The pair return, unsuccessful, wondering who or how there was necromantic energy.

The party devises a new plan. Cassius, Sear, and Faderean go to talk to the bandits attempting to parley under a banner of peace. The man at the gate, identifying himself as Cragger, invites them in, refusing to come into even grounds.
When asked if it was the lair of the Staglord, Cragger confirms it, and invites them to join.
Before Faderean and Sear can stop him, Cassius refuses and says that they’re there to make the Staglord pay for his crimes.
Faderean and Sear are chased away with arrows, while Cassius strolls away with the arrows plinking harmlessly from his armor.
Pirec, frustrated with the stagnation and lengthy planning process, suggests that him and Faderean attempt to get close again that night. Instead, they circle around to the other side of the keep where Hydrastis spots an unnatural depression. They wait until nightfall, and the group sneaks up with metal armor and weapons concealed or packed in sacks. They uncover a trap door leading to an underground tunnel about 6 ft in height. The party steps inside, dons their armor, and prepare for the fight inside…
