Rudi's Notes 06-03-16
The party sets up camp just outside of King Garuum’s empire, debating their next move. They need to finish their charter, and are considering how build alliances at the same time. Cassius, on his watch, invites Garuum and his subjects to break bread, and try to develop trust between the groups.

It’s rainy again, but the party presses on with mapping the region of King Garuum empire.

They travel to the west, where the density of the forest starts to increase, until they reach a clearing with a stone statue reaching 25’ into the air, the fine cut stone in the image of the God Eristil. His figure is both regal and feral all in one, topped by a stag’s head. It gives the impression of being untended, with the shrubbery wild around its base.
Faderean leads the way as they check out the area. Ted calms, his usual grumblings quieting as they enter the area. Eventually he starts pulling back the brush, clearing away the base.
Pirec is drawn behind it, finding an old foundation the size of some sort of lodge. He doesn’t recall any orders of Erastil in the area; only those for a lesser deity that went by the name of Guyronna, the Angry Hag. It was viewed as an evil cult, where all the members were women. Her icon was a bloodshot eye and they had the ability to poison people’s minds, turning friend’s to enemies. They were in the greenbelt hundreds of years ago, but this wasn’t where he thought they would be.
Sear asks Rudi to climb to the top of the statue and see what he can find, eliciting an angry response from Ted who tells the Halfling not to be so disrespectctful, and to go climb a tree instead. Rudi twists his leg free, and climbs up anyways, saying it will be fine, and he was already here, so whats the big deal? At the top, he sees The Gnarl Marshes stretching further to the west, but doesn’t note anything else of interest.
On the ground, Faderean pokes around but turns up little there as well. With nothing else turning up, the party sets up camp in the statue’s shadow, and calls up camp, calling it a good day with one more region mapped out.

Misty and cold, the party travels up through the plains, and into the forest. They reveal more of the Stolen lands beautiful and wild landscapes, but little else of note.

The day warms, muggy and hot, with thunderstorms rolling over the region. Ted strips down to the waist, revealing a body scarred, with the odd ring of parasites hiding just beneath the surface. He assumes it’s from the slurk jerky he ate back near the start of all of this.
Midway through the day, they come to the source of the skunk river, proof lying in the sulfurous stench from the water bubbling up from the mire, converging to form the foul river.
As they look around, large frogs surface, and swim towards the group. It doesn’t take much for the group to dispatch them quickly, utilizing their range and mounts to full effect as they drift out one by one. When Rudi finally closes with the river bank though, a frog emerges and launches his tongue at him, damaging his trachea and starting to smother him. Glod, using a spiritual weapon, crushes it’s skull and sends it sinking back into the mire with the tongue still clinging to the halfling’s face.
Even after Cassius rides over and frees him, Rudi can’t breathe. The cavalier calls for Glod to come save the young Halfling. He grumbles, asking if they could just leave him. Eventually, he comes over and heals him enough to restore his breathing, despite all his protests.
Faderean wanted to fest on the frog legs after, but Ted was too grossed out by the idea to butcher them. So in the end they ate cold rations.

Another cloudy day in the Stolen Lands sees the party arriving at a sandy ford. As they survey the sand bars and the shallows, strange draconic beasts burst from a stand of driftwood in the middle of the ford.
Their yellow eyes gleamed from a draconic face, replete with conical, razor-like teeth. Short arms dangled from their long, sinuous bodies, as they dove at the party from leathery wings.
“Tatzlwyrms!” Glod shouted just before they closed, wreaking havoc on the adventurers.
Their jaws and claws tore at Pirec and Hydrastis, with Cassius’ training and use of heavy armor deflecting their blows.
Hydrastis is coiled in one, as it slowly constricts her and lets the poison do it’s work. Rudi and Ted, seeing their friend collapse, rush to try and free her. Ted knocked it unconscious, and Rudi pulled her loose. Just as he was giving her a healing potion, Glod cast a healing spell that awakened the wyrm. The beast raked him across the shoulder, tearing open his subclavian artery, blood spurting from the wound. The tatzlwyrm almost fulfilled Glod’s wish in killing the Halfling, but Ted put it down before it could.
Pirec didn’t fare much better against the two trying to kill him, collapsing inside the coils of one as well. But the relentless onslaught of Faderean, mixed with Sear’s clever use of spells and Ted’s rage at seeing his friend’s fall spurred them in their butcher’s work.
The ranger continued to hack, until he realized they were all dead. Then, as the others were being tended to, tried to harvest the glands.
He failed terribly.
Collapsing into convulsions, white froth bubbled from his mouth. In the confusion to save Ted, they forget to check the Tatzlwyrm lair for treasure.

The party presses on with Glod administering aid to the now frail half-orc. As the day wears on, they come to a sunken clearing. The smell of rot permeates the area, all wildlife silent except for the insects buzzing around. A dead horse lay on the banks of a fetid pond. The smell of plants rotting permeates the whole of the area, with Sear and Rudi sensing necromantic energy but discovering little else.
Faderean moves forward to inspect, and sees shards of golden bone sticking from it’s face, and gets giddy. “It’s a unicorn!” he shouted. The body is in pristine condition, untouched by decay, as if it just happened. However, the magic that Sear and Rudi detected was ancient, from hundreds of years ago.
Rudi asks Pirec about that evil cult he mentioned, if it truly was gone, and he thought so.
After a little more discussion, they set up camp a half mile from the site. Faderean calls Tyg-Titter-Tut, and after a very long back and forth, hands her a note with the instructions “Bring it to the man at the pond.”
The next morning, a random fisherman strolls into camp, picking up lures, without a clue about what’s going on. He has Faderean’s note, though. They give up on getting help from the fae, and given Ted’s waning health decide to leave. As a last move before leaving, Faderean decides to burn the body in an attempt to stem the corruption, but Rudi stops him.
“The magic’s old, and it hasn’t spread… what if it’s because of the unicorn?”
So they leave it at that, and decide to take care of it later. For now, they decide to return to Oleg’s…
Whether because of the poison coursing through his veins, or just because he’s had enough, Ted decides he’s going to stay behind for good this time. He figured he could work at the outpost for a bit while he recovered. Maybe pick up a thing or two from the post, while helping out. Then, he’d set out one last time and set up a place of his own.
